4 FIELD SURVEY RESULTS
4.1 General
The following sections detail the findings of the field surveys undertaken in February 2022 & June
2022, as per the methodology described in Section 2.2.
4.2 Conservation Significant Flora Species and Ecological Communities
Xanthostemon oppositifolius (southern penda) which is listed as ‘vulnerable’ under the NC and EPBC
Act was identified in a unit of VC1a in the central site extent (refer yellow circle VC01). No clearing
is proposed within VC1a or the adjoining VC1b.
No ecological communities listed under the NC Act or the EPBC Act were observed during the site
inspection. All other species and ecological communities are considered common throughout the
local landscape.
4.3 Vegetation Communities
Nine dominant vegetation communities were identified within and adjacent to the site:
• Vegetation Community 1 (VC 1) – Regrowth rainforest;
• Vegetation Community 2 (VC 2) – Open Eucalypt forest with rainforest understorey;
• Vegetation Community 3 (VC 3) – Open Eucalypt forest with shrubby understorey;
• Vegetation Community 4 (VC 4) – Maintained lawn and pasture with scattered mature trees
& orchard areas;
• Vegetation Community 5 (VC 5) – Acacia open forest;
• Vegetation Community 6 (VC 6) – Paperbark open forest with unmanaged understorey;
• Vegetation Community 7 (VC 7) – Paperbark open forest with managed understorey;
• Vegetation Community 8 (VC 8) – Open forest with managed understorey; and
• Vegetation Community 9 (VC 9) – Slash pine plantation.
The distribution of the vegetation communities is shown in Figure 1 with a description of each
community presented thereafter.
