5.2 Fauna
5.2.1 Impacts
The impacts to fauna species anticipated as a result of the development are anticipated to be minimal
and primarily relate to the development of the existing golf course area, clearing of a small number
of semi-mature trees associated with Village 1, and waterway modification. Potential impacts to
fauna comprise:
o Reduced nocturnal habitat/foraging suitability via introduction of artificial lighting of
external buildings environs;
o Injury or death of fauna during vegetation clearing and waterway modification
including risk of impact to the NC Act vulnerable listed Adelotus brevis (Tusked frog);
and
o Modification of aquatic habitat due to expansion of the onsite waterway and
connection to the dam. The modification proposal represents the risk of significant
sediment plumes entering the dam waters during civil earthworks resulting in potential
significant reduced oxygen demand, algal blooms and general water quality
deterioration for aquatic and amphibious species. Conversely, the modification
proposal is anticipated to result in a long term expansion of aquatic habitat on the site
hence increase the potential aquatic fauna carrying capacity with only low risk of
negative impact anticipated to fauna in the ephemeral waterway by virtue of the
anticipated lack of fauna that would reside in the waterway, precluding potential
amphibious and macroinvertebrate species.
5.2.2 Mitigation Measures
The impact of the proposed development to fauna is proposed to be mitigated/minimised by:
• Locating all built infrastructure in existing cleared anticipated to host limited fauna
utilisation/occupancy;
