2. Site Description

The site is a near-rectangular block located at 13 Mermaid Quay, Noosaville. The site is bounded
by Mermaid Quay to the south, existing residential dwellings to the east and west, and a canal to
the north (refer to Drawing 1 in Appendix B).

At the time of the investigation, the site was occupied by an existing residential dwelling
surrounded by concrete driveways, landscaped gardens, and a swimming pool at the rear. Access
for the drilling rig was limited to the driveway.

3. Regional Geology and Acid Sulfate Soils

3.1 Geology

Reference to the Geological Survey of Queensland’s detailed surface geology mapping indicates
that the site is located in an area of manmade deposits described as typically comprising “gravel,
sand and silt, expected to be underlain by Pleistocene aged estuarine channels and banks
described as typically comprising “sandy mud, muddy sand and minor gravel”.

The natural subsurface conditions encountered during the field work typically comprised sand,
which is considered consistent with the geology described above.

3.2 Acid sulfate soils

Reference to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines 1:100,000 Acid Sulfate Soils
Redcliffe to Teewah Map indicates the site is located in an area described as “disturbed land likely
to contain ASS”.

The presence or otherwise of ASS was determined through laboratory testing. The results of
laboratory testing are discussed in Sections 5.2 and 6.6.2 in this report.

4. Field Work

4.1 Field Work Methods

The field work was carried out on 30 May 2024 and comprised the drilling of two bores
(designated as Bores 1 and 2). The bore locations were set out with reference to site features, with
locations and surface level recorded afterwards using a real-time DGPS device. It is important to
note that Douglas is not a registered surveyor, hence the coordinates and elevations will be
considered approximate. The approximate bore locations are indicated on Drawing 1 in
Appendix B.

Bore 1 was drilled to 6.0 m depth with a 4WD ute mounted Drillman GT10-KD drilling rig using
continuous flight augers fitted with a tungsten carbide (TC) bit. Bore 2 was drilled using a portable
Christie Soil Sampler driving a 50 mm steel sample tube. Dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP)
testing was carried out to assess the relative density and strength consistency of the subsurface
soils. On completion of drilling following observation for groundwater seepage, a PVC standpipe
was installed in Bore 2. Bore 1 was backfilled with spoil tamped down the hole.
