5.2 Acid Sulfate Soils
Samples were recovered from the bores at 0.25 m intervals and were screened by measurement
of pH after the addition of distilled water (pH f) and peroxide (pHfox). The pHf test provides a
preliminary indication of past oxidation of sulfides resulting in the presence of actual acid sulfate
soils (AASS). The pHfox test provides a preliminary indication of the presence of unoxidised sulfides
and therefore, potential acid sulfate soils (PASS).
Based on the results of the screening tests, selected samples were subjected to more rigorous
Chromium Suite analytical testing. The results of this testing are discussed further in Section 6.6.2
and detailed report sheets are provided in Appendix D.
5.3 Groundwater
A sample of groundwater was collected from the standpipe in Bore 2 on 1 July 2024 and tested in
the laboratory for suit of analytes. The results of laboratory testing is summarised in Table 2 with
laboratory test results in Appendix D.
