Figure 1. Map of trial section and proposed expansion zones for the sprinkler deterrent system- Section 2 is
the current trial area and section 1 is the proposed expansion

Therefore, it is recommended that the system be expanded into this section, as per the Ecosure
Management Options Report and Management Plan, to alleviate conflict to those on the
Southern boundary. Furthermore, it is vital that continual monitoring is implemented to determine
the effectiveness of the SDS on this area, as well as meeting DEHP reporting requirements.
Installation of 6-8 sprinklers along the southern boundary will cost $8,500.

4. SUBSIDISED SERVICES INITIATIVE
In 2015/2016, Eurobodella Shire Council implemented a subsidised services program for 740
eligible properties, offering covers for cars, caravans, boats and clotheslines, removal of exotic
Cocos Palms, air fresheners for houses and cars, doormats for local businesses and free access
to high pressure water cleaners. Out of the 740 eligible properties, currently under 200 properties
have subscribed to the services. The Natural Resource Manager has reported a large increase in
community tolerance for the flying-fox colony.
Due to the success of the Eurobodella model in mitigating conflict issues, a public engagement
program was undertaken on 16 October 2016. A survey was performed to determine the interest
of affected residents in proposed subsidised services and gain feedback on their main issues, if
any, with flying-foxes in the highest conflict areas around Wallace Park.
From these consultations, Council offered a subsidised services initiative that provided automatic
home air fresheners, car exterior covers, clothesline covers, professional solar panel cleaning
and free access to high pressure water cleaners, to 55 residences within the high conflict area.
