PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 MARCH 2017
QUATERLY REPORT TO COUNCIL — Q2 FY 2017
1. Introduction
On behalf of the Noosa Biosphere Foundation (NBRF), | am pleased to provide Noosa
Council with an update on activities by the NBRF during the period round year end 2016.
We last met with Council in December 2016 and provided you with a financial report and
narrative on activities from 2015 to 30 June 2016.
We have held our first Board meeting for 2017 on 3 February 2017; key matters arising
from that meeting are included in this quarterly update report.
2. Appointments
We are fortunate to have three professionals join us in different capacities following our
Board meeting on 3 February 2017.
Nick Heath — Strategy Officer
Nick has agreed to join us as a consultant on a part time basis helping
the Board to focus on a few key issues, including the need to develop
and execute on a well-defined strategy, developing relationships which
will enhance our fundraising opportunities and delivering on an
advocacy position after our Fish Management Workshops.
Nick brings a wealth of experience pertinent to these aspirations of the NBRF, in particular
his experiences with WWF, the Barrier Reef and many years working with governmental
groups, including Ministers of the Environment. (Refer Attachment 1 for CV - hard copy
provided in Clirs Room)
Karen Hussey joins the Board
2 The NBRF has developed a close, working relationship with the Global
Change Institute for a number of months through 2016. Several of the
Board noted that Karen’s exceptional background and her engagement
A i with us meant her joining the Board would help fill out some of the skill
/ matrix needed for the Board going forward in 2017.
Consequent to Rowland Hill not being able to re-join the Board at our last AGM in
December 2016, we now have 7 members of a diverse but complementary skill set on the
Board.
We also resolved that, in future, we will seek broader, public input to Board Membership. In
this connection, the Board also approved in principle, the establishment of a Governance
Sub Committee to formalise a number of our policies and processes to ensure we are able
to fulfil our Charter most effectively. (Refer Attachment 2 for CV - hard copy provided in Cllrs
Room)
