2.0 DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS
2.1 Geology
The 1:100,000 scale Gympie Special Geological Map (Sheet 9445 and Part 9545) indicates that the site is
underlain by meta-sedimentary strata of the early to middle Triassic age Kin Kin Beds comprising ‘arenite,
argillite and phyllite’.
Indicative Site Location
Text Figure 3: Extract from Gympie Special geological map
As part of the subsurface investigation, GD completed three boreholes (denoted boreholes BH4 to BH6)
within the approximate footprint of the proposed dam. Borehole locations are illustrated in the site plan
prepared by GD, an extract of which is given below in Text Figure 4.
Text Figure 4: GD site plan showing borehole locations
The subsurface profile encountered in the boreholes generally consisted of a surficial topsoil layer, then stiff,
medium plasticity, sandy clay to depths of 0.5 m to 1.7 m below ground level (BGL); grading to gravelly
silty/sandy clay of very stiff consistency with depth to borehole termination at 3.0 m BGL.
