                 Fire suppression chemicals

Wetting and foaming agents (surfactants) are
permitted for use in wildfire suppression.
Due to the potential environmental impacts
of wetting and foaming agents to natural
waterways and other water bodies they
should be excluded from use within 50
metres of watercourses, dams and swamps.

Care should also be undertaken when re-
filling tenders and water tanks around
natural waterways and water bodies that
foaming and wetting additives are added
away from those water bodies to ensure no
accidental spillage occurs and results in
                 contamination of those water bodies.

                 Smoke management

The potential impacts of smoke and possible
mitigation tactics must be considered when
                 planning for wildfire suppression and
                 controlled burning operations. In the
planning phase of a controlled burn within
the Land Fill Site, local property owners
around the site should be notified or the
potential for residual smoke to be trapped
within the valley during and following a
                 burn.

Additionally as the site abuts two major
roadways smoke hazard signage and traffic
warnings signs should be used. Police
should be notified and be available to slow
or re-direct traffic should smoke become a
major traffic hazard on any major roadway
                 around the site.

                 Visitor management

As the Land Fill Facility is a major community
asset it cannot be closed for controlled burns
however, if the smoke haze resulting from a
controlled burn or a wildfire become such
that it is a safety or health hazard to users
and workers at the facility, closure may be
required until the hazard level has reduced to
                 an acceptable level.
