Thanks Jaro,
As discussed, option 2 would be our preference including pathway lighting in the kick rail on the northern side.
This may require a reduced standard of lighting in comparison to the design standards, however could be signed off by the bridge working group?

Gents,
With the street lighting at the bridge:
* Existing state is one light at mid-span (pier 2) and this is unlikely to meet V5 lighting adopted for Noosa Parade.
* The V5 lighting along Noosa Parade achieves a P3 for the footpath with at least 1.75lux.
* Upgrading the bridge to standard as per the BRP grant would require more lighting for the bridge, meaning more lights.
* Option 1: Removing the existing light would provide the full unobstructed width of the footpath on the northern side, but the bridge would be dark. TODs addressed this through the concept with the existing light central in the path like below. More central lights could be installed at Piers 1 and 3 at the expense of the footpath’s unobstructed width.
* Option 2: Removing the existing light on the northern side and fit three compliant street lights to the southern side. It looks like these were catered for in the 1992 design by TODs and there is power on this side.
* The new northern pathway may trigger a P9 lighting level, as it’s a connecting element (steps, ramps, footbridges, pedestrian ways). This leads to a 7lux requirement, twice as bright as the V5 rating for Noosa Parade.
* The Park Road boardwalk was assessed as P3 through risk assessment. Being a route that is primarily used during the day lead toward that level, but this is a connector to the precinct that will likely need a higher rating than P3.
I will document these in the issues register and design development report, but for the D&C contract I propose to put in the SWTC words to the effect of:
* Road lighting to V5 with luminaires to be on the southern side of the bridge, to maximise pathway width on the northern side.
* Contractor to determine pathway lighting level in accordance with AS 1158.3.
Cheers,
