DETAILS OF SUBMISSION:
We make the following submission:
As long-term visitors and lovers of Peregian Beach; as extended family to a long term resident
and as owners of a residence at nearby Marcus Beach; we are strongly opposed to the proposal
of 50 units being built on the wetland area behind the current IGA.
* The wetland is a beautiful, natural environment which provides open space, vistas and homes
to fauna and flora. The "undeveloped", natural beauty is the reason the Noosa region is visited
by tourists and loved by locals. Wetlands should be treasured.
* As with the development of the second shopping centre (IGA); once the land is built upon,
the natural landscapes are gone forever. We do not get a second chance. As the first piece of
wetland is carved away by a developer, it paves the way for others to follow.
*The noise and traffic congestion already created by the second shopping centre, will be
further compounded by the vehicles of 50 more families and the necessary adjoining carparks.
* The small, relaxed village feel which makes Peregian so inviting and unique will be lost as
increased population makes more and more demands on space, sound, time and
environment. The very qualities which people love about Peregian will be lost if developers are
allowed to continually slice off more and more.
* As well as these long term impacts, the filling in of the wetland and construction of the
buildings would create further traffic chaos, noise and destruction.
*Who would benefit by the approval of this development? It would not be the future
generations, the tourists who visit or the local residents.

Again, we strongly believe we must treasure our unique natural environment and small village
atmosphere. We do not need more units, carparks or shops. Instead - perhaps
some boardwalks through the wetlands and care and maintenance of its fauna and flora.
