RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the General Committee Meeting
dated 13 July 2020 and endorse the various projects submitted to the State and Commonwealth
governments for funding as set out in the report.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with an update on various grant applications and
funding opportunities that have recently emerged. Many of these funding opportunities are directly
related to Commonwealth and State government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clearly, both levels of government are looking to stimulate local economies and create jobs and
programs that are delivered by local councils are an excellent way to achieve that outcome very
quickly. This report will provide information about current Commonwealth and State government
funding programs with a particular emphasis on COVID-19 opportunities. This report does not
deal with funding programs associated with Bushfire Recovery.
1. Commonwealth funding
A. Funding for bridge renewals
The Commonwealth has had funding available for bridge renewals for a number of years. Council
has been successful in past years under this program receiving funding for bridges at Old Noosa
Road Cooran and Mary River Road, Cooroy. Those projects have been completed.
Council is currently working on three additional bridges where we have already received funding
from the Commonwealth, namely:
(i) Orealla Bridge, Sunrise Beach;
(ii) Wahpunga Lane, Kin Kin; and
(iii) Tablelands Road, Cooran.
The first of these is currently under construction with the other two in the final design stage. Funding
under this program is generally on a 50/50 basis.
