MCU14/0106 Submission PM Object - Kay Fielden
Subject: Proposed development re expansion of Noosa Civic ...MCU 14/0106 From: Kay Fielden Date: 2015-07-16T05:02:00+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail To the assessment manager, Planning and Development section I wish to lodge my protest against the proposed further development of the area known as Noosa Civic Shopping Centre. Firstly the proposal seems to be a repeat performance of what was originally mooted by the former developers, and was knocked back by Council and rightly so. Secondly the proposal serves no proper purpose as there are a number of shops already vacant in the site, and further expansion will cause more. Thirdly the proposed development will mean loss of already endangered habitat for koalas, and lead to koala possible extinction on the Sunshine Coast. Given that koalas are already threatened on the Coast it is our submission that further or threatened endangerment of the species should be prevented. The koala is one of our national icons, and should be protected from what at the most is going to be yet another shopping mall. Fourthly Noosa Civic already has a supermarket, and doesn’t need another. The type of shops in the Civic Centre are not likely to attract additional trade in the advent that the Centre is enlarged. Fifthly parking is already inadequate for the structure that we have in the Centre...the additional parking will not make much difference. Sixthly the damage that will be done to existing traders/shopowners both in the Civic Centre, and in places like Noosaville, Tewantin and Noosa Junction will be quite substantial as they will be forced to compete with this larger conglomeration. For example it is rumoured that the Target Country store will move from Noosa Junction over to the Proposed Development of Noosa Civic, and that will result in further shops closing in that area, in spite of Noosa Council’s endeavours to improve the locality. To date Noosa junction has lost 2 banks, a Mitre 10 shop, and a plethora of other shops...all ceasing to trade. I have many other objections but the above are my principle ones. It would be dreadful in my view, if Noosa Civic shopping Centre was to be developed along the lines of the current proposal. K.L.FIELDEN PO BOX 273 TEWANTIN 4565 No virus found in this message.
