MCU12/0184 Concerns about development approval Liz Meritt
Subject: 1192 dw FYI mayor MCU12/0184 Broiler Farm - Cooroy From: Liz Merritt Date: 2013-12-05T02:16:04+00:00 To: Internet Mailbox Sunshine Coast Regional Council Dear Mayor Jamieson, Please take time to read my concerns before you vote. I understand you are busy and I have kept this to dot points to save you time and highlight some points you may not already know. We are small scale primary producers in the area running cattle and own a property on Top Forestry Road. This week I followed a fully laden grain truck on the same route to the proposed development. The truck often crossed over the double white lines on Belli Creek Road as it turned onto Old Ceylon Road the truck could not easily proceed up the hill and stopped momentarily leaving me on Belli Creek Road with a blind corner behind me. It is a matter of time before a fatality occurs due to the increased traffic. A land slip occurred on the proposed development property during the late January rains this year and will occur again due to the significant cuts made on the steep hill of this property where the avocado orchard is. This is where the animal waste is to be spread which will run into the Creek which ultimately runs into the Mary River. Council should be promoting sustainable farming where in farming techniques protect the environment, public health and safety, animal welfare and preserve the lifestyle that we have chosen to raise our families. This application is not farming, this is an industrial development. It is my understanding that an Environmental Impact Statement has not been made available and without this I ask you to defer making decision next week. Obviously those directly on Top Forestry Road and surrounding areas are financially impacted, our properties will devalue due to the scale of this development. Please, if you do not understand the development, do not know the area and are going to vote yes because you think this is economic growth could you please take more time to consider your vote. Liz Merritt
