EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Planning and Organisation
Committee dated 25 March 2014 and adopt the roadmap as a guide for prioritisation of issues
until such time as the Council adopts its first Corporate Plan.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to bring together the range of issues facing this Council as a new
local government and to endeavour to structure a logical prioritisation around the various issues.
As a de-amalgamating Council, we are obviously in the start-up phase. As expected, there are
many competing priorities in order to successfully establish a new Council. Naturally, we can't do
everything at once but the key is to make sure that we do the right things first to establish a
successful Council.
As Council would be aware, the CEO has been reviewing progress with the de-amalgamation
process, identifying key strategies for the new Council and focusing on establishing a new
Council working culture. In order to create some structure around the many competing priorities,
the CEO has prepared a “roadmap” document which is designed to identify some of the key
priorities under different categories.
A copy of the roadmap is attached to this report.
The roadmap document includes the headings set out below. It is not intended to be a complete
shopping list of every potential project that the Council may need to address. However, it can
provide some direction for Council and staff about what we need to focus on in our early days.
