EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This place-naming request was initiated by the Fenwick family’s representative Linda Sivyer in
2011. An offer was made to the family by Sunshine Coast Regional Council to name a room in
the Cooroy Library the Fenwick Room. This proposal came before the Noosa Council
Infrastructure and Services Committee in June 2014 and the recommendation was not adopted.
The matter was referred back to the Community Services Department to undertake additional
research into milling families associated with the Cooroy Lower Mill Site and ways they have
been recognised in the community through named assets or similar recognition. Community
Services was also tasked with identifying other opportunities for public recognition of these
families and fulfilment of the Fenwick family’s place-naming request.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Heritage Librarian to the Infrastructure & Services Committee
Meeting dated 31 March 2015 and agree to:
A. Recognise the Fenwick family for their contributions and longstanding connection to the
Cooroy district and, more specifically, the Cooroy Mill Site by way of a place-naming;
B. Adopt Fenwick Park as the name for the park on Straker Drive Cooroy (in the Greenwood
Grove estate between Stage 1 and Stage 3 of the development); and
C. Undertake a consultation process to address the mis-spelling of Blanfords Court
(Greenwood Grove Estate Cooroy) to Blandford Court.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with alternate options regarding the place-naming
request lodged by the Fenwick family in 2011 and which previously came before Council in June
2014.

originally made in 2011 and was being addressed by Sunshine Coast Regional Council. The
family’s initial request was that Mill Place be renamed Fenwick Place. This was not practical and
