This form has been designed for the convenience of the public, and any persons wishing to lodge a submission are not obliged to use this form. 3. Details of Submission I (We), make the following submission: I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion. I am neither a business owner nor a landlord in Noosa however I oppose the proposed expansion of the Noosa Civic Centre on the grounds that Noosa already has too much retail space as is evidenced by the commercial vacancies and business closures (eg berardos) in all Noosa shopping areas including (but not limited to) Noosa Junction, Tewantin, Noosa Village and Hastings St. Each new vacancy steals a little vibrancy from its surrounding area, further diminishing the appeal of the remaining businesses to the consumer. Tourism is Noosa’s main industry. Tourists come here to enjoy the beach and restaurants, amble along boutique shopping, see family and friends, and for outdoor lifestyle; they don’t come for the mall, they come for the ‘not mall’. Many of Noosa’s residences are second homes and unoccupied much of the year so need little retail. And like the tourists when they come, the occupants aren’t coming for the mall, they are also coming for the ‘not mall’. Noosa is no exception to the rapid decline of traditional retail shopping that is occurring thoughout Australia due to online shopping. The Noosa Civic Extension proposal will only exacerbate the problem of oversupply of retail space that already exists further diminishing the appeal of all areas affected by all those who use them. For these reasons I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion proposal.
