SUBMISSION - NOOSA CIVIC EXPANSION MCU14/0106
I object to the above application on the following grounds:
• Retail expansion of some 32,OOOsqmat the current Noosa Civic is NOT warranted.
Civic retailers currently struggle economically so further competition is not in
anyones best interest. Existing local small businesses thoughout The Junction,
Tewantin, Hastings Street, Gympie Terrace, Cooroy and other Hinterland Towns
must be protected against more isolated malls for retail and discount super-chains.
Competition from on-line shopping is also increasing daily.
• Retail shopping is not a major on Noosa's older and aging population spending
agenda, whereas there is increasing community demand for health, age care and
specialty services.
• Noosa Biosphere development has always been to maximise its unique character,
encouraging sustainable diversification, eco-tourism, professional services and
tourism, while protecting our natural environment. Removing bushland for the
expansion of more unnecessary retail will not improve Noosa's economy or image.
