3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission:
I am in support of refurbishment to the Royal Mail Hotel Tewantin. However, there are various issues that need to be resolved before
it goes ahead. In particular, there has not been enough focus on the impact the renovation will have on Blakesley Street residents - in
fact, Blakesley Street is not even labelled on some of the plans. Given that Blakesley Street is the only residential street bordering the
project, Noosa Council must ensure that problematic issues are addressed prior to the project going ahead.
Speci cally:
(a) Traf c - with both the entry and exit from the project’s planned carpark on Blakesley Street, there will be a considerable increase in
traf c, with all the ensuing problems. Blakesley Street residents must be considered, particularly with regard to speeding, dangerous
driving, traf c noise, and parking.
(b) Parking - the number of car parking spaces marked on the plans falls approximately 100 short of the Noosa Council’s required 183
spaces for such a project. This must be addressed, as Blakesley Street cannot handle over ow parking. We are already experiencing
parking problems in our street, and it is not reasonable for Council to allow these issues to be exacerbated.
(c) Noise - Council needs to ensure adequate checks are in place to keep noise (patrons and music) to a reasonable level
(d) Appearance - the heritage facade must be maintained, at least to a level that is appropriate to Tewantin’s history and the ambience
of our town. Ditto the landscaping which should create an attractive barrier from the outset, i.e. mature plantings
(if
(e)necessary, use separate
prior sheet of paper and attached)
