REPORT
1. Purpose of this report
This report presents a proposal by Boomerang Alliance to conduct a pilot community led project
called “Plastic free Noosa” and the support they are seeking from Council.
2. Background
Boomerang Alliance has approached Council requesting support for their proposal to implement
a community led initiative to reduce the use of plastic within the Noosa area. This initiative is
proposed to commence in July this year and will be used as a pilot program for the expansion of
a plastic free community in other local government areas.
Boomerang Alliance intends to facilitate the bringing together of key agencies and community
organisations to implement this plan. However, they believe that its real value is in the Noosa
community taking control itself through a targeted and strategic plan to reduce Noosa’s plastic
footprint.
They propose to apply for a government grant to assist them in this project and funding for the
pilot project and are seeking a letter of support from Council to accompany their grant application
which confirms Council’s support for the project.
