EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A draft Environment Strategy and overarching Environment and Sustainable Living Policy have
been developed to provide long term strategic direction and guiding principles for the way we
manage and live in the Noosa environment. The draft Environment Strategy provides clear
strategies, targets and a range of strategic outcomes that Council seeks to achieve in partnership
with the community and a range of stakeholders. This report presents the Environment and
Sustainable Living Policy for adoption and the draft Environment Strategy for endorsement to go
out to community consultation.

That Council note the report by the Manager Environmental Services to the General Committee
Meeting dated 18 February 2019 and:
A. Adopt the Environment and Sustainable Living Policy provided at Attachment 1 to the
report;
B. Approve the draft Environment Strategy for the purposes of community consultation, as
provided at Attachment 2 to the report.
C. Approve the Community Engagement & Communications Plan for the drat Environment
Strategy, as provided at Attachment 3 to the report.
REPORT
The Environment and Sustainable Living Policy outlines Council’s high level commitment to work
with the community in a collaborative, integrated, ecologically sustainable and well-informed way,
and with a long-term view to maintaining and improving the health of our natural environment.
The draft Environment Strategy provides further detail to guide decision making and investment
over the next 10 years. It is supported by a broad range of existing environment-related plans
that contain detailed actions, responsibilities and timeframes for delivery, including the Noosa
River Plan, Zero Emissions Strategy, Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan, Flood Management
Plan, and the soon to be developed Climate Change Adaptation Plan, amongst other policies and
guidelines.
