GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 18 FEBRUARY 2019
Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
A number of community forums and workshops were held in 2017 to discuss the scope, themes
and priorities for an Environment Strategy. A total of 26 community groups participated.
A discussion paper on the Environment Strategy was distributed to community groups for
comment in April 2018.
Through community consultation on Your Say Noosa in July and August 2018, Council received
more than 60 comments on priorities for inclusion in the draft strategy.
Further workshops with community groups were held in December 2018 to refine environmental
management and sustainable living issues.
Broad community engagement on the draft Strategy is the next step in the process and is
outlined in the Community Engagement & Communications Plan, refer Attachment 3. External
engagement will largely be through Your Say Noosa, media releases, Facebook and briefings to
community groups.
Internal Consultation
In June 2018, a Councillor workshop was held to discuss the broad direction and scope of the
Environment Strategy, prior to the start of active drafting. This included the proposed structure of
the plan, a discussion around key policy principles, and an outline of how consultation will
progress.
In November 2018 a draft Environment and Sustainable Living Policy and Draft Environment
Strategy was workshopped with Councillors, with specific focus on the core structure of the
document – themes, strategies and outcomes. The opportunity for more detailed feedback on the
whole draft was offered to Councillors in the weeks after this workshop.
In February 2019 the proposed targets, strategies and methods for measuring against targets
were workshopped with Councillors.
Key managers and officers have also been involved in the development of the Strategy and been
able to review drafts as the draft Environment Strategy has progressed.
