LANDSCAPE DESIGN INTENT STATEMENT This statement is prepared to support the landscape proposals in association with the the performing arts and parking project for the College. These proposals seek to create a responsible and sustainable landscape outcome which balances the functional and operational needs of the College community, in association with known Statutory Authority and Noosa Council requirements for the area. The concept proposals should be read in conjunction with allied project consultant packages for a coordinated understanding of the project. Fundamentally, the landscape methodology for the new performing arts and carpark refurbishment project strives for a high-quality built outcome which enhances and reinforces local landscape values. Importantly, the landscape concept promotes the use of indigenous and native plantings for greening, aesthetic quality and College community environmental education benefit. In addition to plant selections, the robust materials and finishes palette seeks to complement and seamlessly connect the new built form to the existing circulation networks. The landscape design process has considered the following main elements: Analysis of the historical and existing site character, consideration of adjacent current and potential future land uses, existing materials, prevailing climatic conditions, site limitations and relationships; Consideration of Local Authority and education facility requirements and base site data available; and Development of proposals including hardscape and plant palettes anticipating proposed function, maintenance requirements, project aesthetic and budgets. For education facilities, a principal landscape aim is to support safe, equitable and legible access through the project DATE: areas. In addition, detailed consideration and awareness is given to the nature of sites that are progressively 18/3/2024 developed and redeveloped over multiple generations can also influence project design decisions. As a performing arts precinct and carpark revitalisation, the design arrangements consider large group and gathering capacity in addition to daily use by small groups and individuals. In response, the design provides substantial paths and areas for all weather hardstand, predicting site desire lines to promote logical pedestrian and vehicular movements for access, maintenance and servicing the new built form in the campus. In addition, a variety seating and small group areas are provided to maximise the variety and settings available for use. Vehicle and pedestrian interfaces are clearly delineated with a combination of physical and visual cues in materials and finishes. Provision for emergency / service vehicle is considered along the existing pool/performing arts precinct interface. Pedestrian connectivity is supported both externally and internally clearly linking the new project spaces. BURLINGBROWN Generally, the plant species selected promote the inclusion of existing locally occurring species and those being proven, hardy types suitable for the Noosa area, with limited water requirements beyond establishment. The project selection focuses on evergreen types, those readily commercially available, adaptable and suited to pruning and screening or those providing specific educational and environmental benefit. Where feasible, shade and screening trees have been included to supply natural shade and support reduction in negative urban heat island effect. In addition, trees and other plantings act to ‘break down’ adjacent built form reinforcing human scale spatial design principles. Though plant selections are based on hardy species selections and irrigation systems are proposed for inclusion, in addition provision for manual watering capability throughout if required to supplement rainfall. Natural turf is proposed for the entry forecourt precinct and supports a clear internal view to the new building from the campus internal car parking and reconfigured drop-off zone, all consistent with supporting legibility and campus connection. ST SOUTHPORT QLD 4215 AUSTRALIA SOUTHPORT QLD 4215 AUSTRALIA To support water management strategies, a fenced bio-basin zone is strategically located within the soft landscape. For trees in pavement, tree grates, structural soils and permeable pavement is proposed, supportive of managing overland flow, supporting air and water transfer for the vegetation benefit. All mass planting areas are to include quality soils, sub surface drainage networks and all finished in appropriate, fit for purpose organic mulches. As previously outlined, safety for site users is a key driver for the design proposal for the landscape areas. Key features are summarised below that meet CPTED considerations: Maintain a safe and visible path of travel around the site; —PRELIMINARY : : Le . General Palette Notes:
This is not a construction schedule for planting but provided to describe project intent and thematic style only.
Any height / spread and sizes are nominated as a guide and approximate only. Final width and dimension of specimens are dependent on prevailing
environmental conditions and maintenance regime on site.
Planting selection considers various factors. These include the existing campus species palette, expected commercial availability in addition to Local
Authority preferred species and State Regionl Ecosystem mapping.
