Not properly made submission (late) Martin Sergas MCU12/0184
Subject: nzw BCS 1192 MCU 12/0184 Notice of Submission Martin Sergas From: Martin Sergas Date: 2013-08-05T08:41:09+00:00 To: Internet Mailbox Sunshine Coast Regional Council Dear Assessment Officer, I would like to voice my concerns and lodge a formal objection against the proposed intensive chicken farming application noted above. As a local resident living within the shadow of this proposed farming practice, I would like to provide you a list of my concerns and apprehension I have regarding your consideration of this approval. 1- Associated smell and odour concerns of storage and usage of this activity. It is noted in the attached environmental study that there seems to have been no mention of these factors when it comes to prevailing winds of spreading of the stockpiled fertiliser to the outer extreme ties of the properties orchard. 2- Concerns about increased heavy traffic , in-particular B Double semi trailers along Belli Creek Road , Old Ceylon road and through the township of Cooroy . In a previous career , I have owned a heavy rigid truck and travelled this route daily and know all to well the limitations and dangers this route provides in a truck of this size, the thought of travelling this route in a B double and negotiating the associated bends and intersection within this route is of significant concern. Particularly Belli Creek road intersection with Old Ceylon Road, steep entry with limited roadway to negotiate in and out of the intersection. Alternatively , I hold concerns for any resident, friend or family member being confronted by a B Double traveling in the opposite direction along Belli Creek or Old Ceylon Road. Contrary to traffic engineer information submitted in the lodged application, I believe that Belli Creek Road cannot safely facilitate 6-8 B double truck movements a day without it being a considerable safety concern for all community members utilising this road on a daily basis. I would also note the recent addition of this road as cyclist training route with recently installed signage and cannot located any reference to this identified in the submitted traffic engineering report for this proposal. I would like to also note that his entire route including Top Forestry Road is all a School Bus Route and myself also being a retired professional international coach driver identifies the potential risks of these vehicles confronting each other at various locations along his route and should also be addressed and considered within assessment of this application . 3- On ethical and moral grounds, I generally object to the practice of this style of farming in general. From the reported historically inhumane conditions along with the intensive nature of the this farming practice, high use of energy for heating and cooling . ( our local community has just fought off Powerlink proposal which would have severely impacted the same immediate neighbourhood. P.A.G.E - power action group Eumundi.) 4- The potential for ongoing and persistent noise and air pollution of the aviary sheds and possible disease and bio hazard ( avian or other wise) which has a potential to impact on native bird life. Water quality and run off into the Mary River catchment area which the extended community has fought hard to preserve and protect after the Mary River dam fiasco. Finally , approval of multiple large sheds measuring proposed 100 m in length each located on a ridge line in clear view and impacting on all residents surrounding this site or traveling along scenic Mary River Road is not in keeping with a rural /residential prime hinterland area located within the Noosa Biosphere environment. I hope this information is reviewed and considered appropriately as part of your assessment and hopeful refusal. Yours sincerely , Martin Sergas 90 Jorgensen Rd, Ridgewood .
