PM Submission - Duprice Forno and Clay Windon - MCU25/0006
To Whom It May Concern,
We are Clay and Duprice, Brisbane residents and frequent visitors to the Noosa region. We
enjoy visiting this beautiful area, particularly sunshine beach and noosa national park, which
continue to be places we return to with our young family.
On a recent visit, we became aware of the proposed development at 17 Russell Street,
Noosaville (MCU25/0006), and we were elated to see plans for a purpose-built backpacker
hostel in such a central location.
Backpackers have long been a vibrant and essential part of Noosa’s tourism landscape.
Meaningful support to local businesses, cultural diversity and a new buzz of energy are just
some of the perks to having backpackers in our local community. Yet, the growing lack of
affordable accommodation options has placed increasing pressure on public spaces, especially
at popular sites like Noosa National Park, and our local beaches, where carparks are often
overrun by vans used as makeshift lodging.
This development offers a timely and practical solution. By providing affordable, dedicated
accommodation, we can alleviate the congestion caused by van stays in public areas,
residential streets, and in our parks. This is a step toward more sustainable tourism, with long
term benefits for the region.
The site itself—opposite the caravan park and close to the river—is well suited to this purpose.
The proposed design is purposeful and thoughtful of the pre-existing landscape.
By addressing this clear need we can better support visitor management, and help preserve the
natural beauty that makes Noosa so special. We would like to bring noosa to the forefront of
tourism and it is developments like this that will get us there.
Warm regards,
Clay and Duprice
