6.6 Engineering Design and Practice
Good engineering design of foundations and earthworks not only reduces maintenance costs of
the structure throughout its design life, it also minimises uncertainties associated with foundation-
structure interaction and hence the risks. Some notes on good and poor engineering practice for
hillside construction are presented in Appendix 3 (reproduced from AGS 2007c, Appendix 3). It
is recommended that the guidelines on good engineering practice provided in Appendix 3 be
used for this site.

7 Summary and Conclusions
Civil Geotechnical Consultants has undertaken a slope risk assessment at 416-411 Black Pinch
Road, Cootharaba and it is considered that based on the site walkover and with reference to the
recommendations contained within this report the development will have a low risk of instability
due to landslip actions.
It has been found that the development would, subject to the recommendations herein being
followed, satisfy the Performance Outcome PO1 as defined in the Noosa Plan 2020, Table
8.2.8.3 of the Noosa Shire Council Planning Scheme.
A site-specific geotechnical assessment has been completed for the site and has demonstrated
that the landslide hazard risk is considered to be Low. The development is not situated in an area
of high risk of land instability and the proposed development should not adversely impact on this
risk if the recommendations made herein are adhered to.
It is advisable that a final inspection and evaluation of the site works be undertaken by a
competent RPEQ following completion of the development. This is to ensure general compliance
to the above recommendations and sound building practices on steep and sloping sites.
