Project Shellebration
On the 7th of September 2022, TNC facilitated a project ‘Shellebration’ to celebrate the conclusion of the formal partnership
between NC and TNC, to acknowledge the advances made and to formally announce and name the oyster reefs.

More than 50 invited guests (and a few uninvited) attended the Shellebration. Guests included Kabi Kabi elders, TTF, NC
councilors and staff, key state agencies, community partners and potential future partners.

Special thanks are expressed to all the Kabi Kabi elders, but particularly to Uncle Fred Palin, who delivered a wonderful
Welcome to Country address and, on behalf of the Kabi Kabi Peoples, formally named Noosa’s oyster reefs: the Huon
Mundy Reefs and Councilor

See Annex 39a

TNC particularly also thanks Deputy Mayor, Frank Wilke for his impassioned keynote address at the Shellebration.

See Appendix 39b

TNC also thanks:

o Kabi Kabi elder and applicant, Melissa Bond, who kindly developed the artwork for the Tewantin signage, artwork
which will be used on future products to further celebrate Kabi Kabi connection to country.

o Kabi Kabi elder, Maurice Mickelo, for leading an imposing smoking ceremony at the base of the Tewantin reefs.

o NC councilors, Wilke, Stockwell, Jurasavic and Wegner for their participation in the Shellebration (and their tireless
         support for the project).

o NICA for showing off oyster baskets and totally engaging all in attendance with interesting insights to oyster
recruitment patterns and the workings of the Noosa River.

o NCBA for displaying their impressive Noosa River banner and memorizing us all with its detail, complexity and
linkages to the land and sea country of the Kabi Kabi Nation.

Below are some social media and images from this wonderful event (Figures 17 to 21).
