6 Conclusion
MRG Environmental conducted a noise impact assessment for the proposed mixed use development
at Myall Street, Cooroy. The assessment was conducted to assess noise emanating from
surrounding state controlled roads being the Bruce Highway and Cooroy Connection Road and the
proposed mixed use development and recommend treatment to achieve the nominated noise level
criteria.

Road traffic noise impacting external facades/formal open space was assessed using ‘Transport and
Main Roads Policy for Development on Land Affected by Environmental Emissions from Transport
and Transport Infrastructure Version 2, 10 May 2013’ (DLAEETTI)(TMR, 2013). Internal acoustic
amenity was assessed by the revision of the QDC MP4.4 noise categories for each cabin/site office.
Commercial noise was assessed using ‘background plus’ and sleep disturbance criteria during the
nominated operational hours.

The results of the assessment are as follows:

Road Traffic Noise

 Construction of acoustic barriers as per Figure 4.2. Acoustic barriers should be solid and
continuous with negligible gaps and constructed to meet TMRs MRS15 and MRTS15.
 Incorporate facade treatments consistent with QDC MP4.4 noise categories as presented in
          Table 4.4 for cabins/site office.

Commercial Noise

 Construction of acoustic barriers as per Figure 5.1. The barriers should be solid and
continuous with negligible gaps and a minimum surface density of 12.5 kg/m2.
 Deliveries and refuse collection (with the exception of fuel) should be during the daytime
(7:00 am to 6:00 pm) only.
 Site access should be restricted to Myall Street entry/egress during the nighttime.
 As mechanical plant for the proposed development is yet to be selected, noise limits were
proposed to inform the selection of mechanical plant as presented in Table 5.3.
 Carwash pumps and water treatment should be located within an enclosed building.
 Carwash vacuums should be selected to be at or below the estimated sound power levels
          nominated within Table 5.1.
