We also invited local residents to attend a Community Information Session on 24 October 2013 and ran Formal Public Notification during February-March 2014 for the DA (MCU13/0051). In response to community and Council feedback, NBN Co has in good faith investigated the feasibility of alternative sites adjacent to the HV towers off Schreibers Rd to service rural Cooran and has withdrawn the original Development Application (Coles Creek Road, Cooran— DA MCU13/0051). Earlier this year NBN Co successfully secured landowners consent to lodge a new DA (MCU15/0034) at 249 Schreiber’s Road, Cooran. We are now pleased to advise that Formal Public Notification in accordance with s297 of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 has commenced for the new proposal at 249 Schreibers Road, Cooran (MCU15/0034). NBN Co has demonstrated a record of real cooperation and flexibility with both Council and residents in Noosa Shire, and this approach is evident at Cooran, where alternative sites have been investigated in response to community feedback and Council’s advice. This alternative location significantly reduces the overall visual impact of the proposal and therefore constitutes a more favourable development outcome for the entire community and ensures compliance with the Desired Environmental Outcomes of the Noosa Plan. About the NBN The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an upgrade to Australia's existing telecommunications network. It is designed to provide Australians with access to fast, affordable and reliable internet services, as quickly and as cost effectively as possible. NBN Co pians to upgrade the current telecommunications network in the most cost-efficient way using best-fit technology and taking into account existing infrastructure. This will vary from place to place and will include technologies such as Fibre to the Node, Fibre-to the Premises, fixed wireless and satellite. Use of fixed wireless and satellite technologies is expected to result in significant improvements compared to services currently available to many Australians living in regional and remote communities. As part of the fixed wireless component of the network, NBN Co is proposing to establish a series of fixed wireless facilities which are designed to provide fast and reliable wireless broadband services to Australians living in regional and remote areas, including the Noosa Council area. While NBN Co's fixed wireless service is not a mobile service, it will use cellular technology to transmit signals to and from a small antenna fixed on the outside of a home or business, which is pointed directly towards the fixed wireless facility. NBN Co is designing each fixed wireless facility to serve a set number of premises, which should enable consistency in the speed and quality of services that canbe delivered to each home and business receiving the fixed wireless service.
