SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 MARCH 2019
The second half of 2018/19 will also see management undertake the development of a learn-to-
swim program strategy, as well the centre’s 10-year masterplan. The masterplan will look at
possible future centre enhancements such as a new family change space and a dedicated group
fitness class space. The need for both spaces is becoming more and more evident to
management as high visitation numbers are sustained and customers’ expectations grow.

Risks & Opportunities
Given the complexity and scale of the planned capital works projects, there is a risk that
timeframes and/or costs will escalate beyond expectations. Management are undertaking careful
planning to try and avoid such a scenario, but it’s a risk nonetheless.
There is also a risk that the impact of the closure will be greater than expected with regard to the
centre’s finances. Management have budgeted for a $200k revenue reduction in 2019/20 as a
direct result of the centre’s closure, however, if the closure extends longer than expected, or if it
takes longer than expected for customers to return to their pre-closure usage pattern, the
revenue loss will increase accordingly.
A separate risk also on the horizon for the NAC is the opening of the 50m and learn-to-swim
pools at St Andrew’s College in Peregian Springs. While exact dates and the final operating
model remain unknown, management anticipate the pools are likely to be open by early 2019/20.
There will likely be an impact on revenue for the NAC, particularly via the loss of St Andrew’s
bookings, the Monday night school water polo program and some learn-to-swim students. Over
time NAC management anticipate there will be opportunities to replace the lost customers with
new ones, particularly during peak periods.
