4.2 Topography
As illustrated in Text Figure 6, the site is located on the south-easterly facing flank of an ancient sand
dune which crests locally about 60 m to the north-west. The ground slope is therefore oblique across the
site. During our site walk-over survey, topographic features specific to the site were noted, and ground
slopes were recorded using a hand-held clinometer.
The inferred natural slopes across the site measured at the time of our assessment mostly ranged from
about 8° to the west, up to about 14° towards the south-eastern corner of the site. An area of slightly
steeper ground was observed along the southern site boundary, with slopes ranging from 20° up to
about 24°. Historical imagery suggests that this batter could possibly have been formed during
construction of the neighbouring property. Dune slopes were estimated to range up to about 15°
immediately beyond the eastern boundary of the site, extending down over the stoss slope over a
distance of about 70 m.
Generally, no irregular surface features were noted which would indicate global slope instability within
the site or on slopes surrounding nearby.

4.3 Geology
Available geological information1 indicates that the site is underlain by Holocene age blowout dunes
comprising “quartz sand.” An extract of the relevant geological mapping is shown in Text Figure 7 on the
following page.
