An OBJECTION to
Application Number: MCU10/2083
Development Application for Nursery Site 37 Gibson Road
I am vehemently opposed to the proposed development application seeking to rezone and develop a
Convenience Centre on the Nursery site at 37 Gibson Road, Noosaville.
The application is based on the claim that local residents have need for more convenience retail
facilities and moderately-priced food outlets. How was this claim reached, who initiated the research,
how was the information gathered and by whom?
Currently we have ready access to all the proposed shopping types and the needs of our immediate
community and are very supportive of the existing traders who are experiencing hardship at this time.
We have numerous bakeries/patisseries in Gympie Terrace, Thomas Street, Weyba Road, Farmers
Market, Noosa Village and supermarket also Noosa Junction and The Civic Centre in the wider
community.
Currently numerous shops/offices are empty and have been for some time and there exists constant
change in retail shops in the immediate and struggling wider community.
A 24 hour convenience store would be superfluous to our local community as this is more than
adequately catered for by the supermarket, existing convenience stores, service stations etc. In
addition, it would only meet the needs of the visiting and non-members of this community and those
who seek refuge in the twilight hours. In addition, safety is an issue for all residents and visitors alike.
We do not need to add to an existing problem by encouraging revellers to loiter late into the night in a
volatile and inherently dangerous environment. Currently, this is an on-going issue.
Additional retail and food outlets would only add to the already burdened Gibson Road by increasing
bright lighting and vehicular volume, noise and pollution from additional traffic. Accessing Gibson
Road taking a right-hand turn is already a traffic and pedestrian hazard and provision of parking for an
additional 67 vehicles can only further exacerbate an existing and growing problem.
Obesity and its related medical problems are sadly rapidly increasing. Why then would we support
four additional fast food outlets being added to the existing blight on Noosaville.
To approve this development is to ignore the needs and wellbeing of this community. We as a
community are absolutely opposed to this proposal and the ultimately, the rezoning of this residential
property. We are in need of no further retail and moderately-priced food outlets today or in the
foreseeable future.
Yours sincerely
