at which the door is rolled up or down, and its general condition. The 6.00am start time and 10.00pm – midnight finish time for the café makes this particular noise important to control, which can easily be achieved by controlling the speed at which the doors are operated. It is noted that the café is yet to be fitted out, and in that regard it is recommended that consideration be given to controlling the internal reverberant characteristics. This will serve two purposes. The first is that it will directly lower any noise coming out of the café by controlling the reverberant noise level. The second is that by lowering the internal noise level, patrons will communicate at lower vocal efforts, further reducing the total noise produced by the café. 8. Summary and Conclusions The proposed café at 18 Duke St, Sunshine Beach can be operated in a manner that achieves the Outcomes of the Noosa Plan i.e. without significant adverse change to noise in the area. The measures required to do this are predominately operational in nature, and are therefore dependent on staff being very aware of the potential for noise generation, and pro-actively addressing it as required. Suggestions have been made to address potential noise sources, however these shouldn’t be considered to be exhaustive. The suggestions made within this report are put forward to minimise the potential for annoyance caused by noise from the café. Surveys have shown that regardless of the noise source (industrial, traffic, commercial or residential), noise complaints are most often made after the complainant is already so annoyed that they are very difficult or impossible to appease, regardless of what measures are implemented. It is therefore strongly advised that the café operators pay particular attention to noise during the first days and weeks after trading commences in order to quickly establish what levels of noise the café will typically produce and develop effective site-specific methods for noise control. I trust this is sufficient for your present requirements. However, if you have any further queries please contact me on 0416 132 51 or at [email protected] Sincerely Joseph Carroll B.
