    1.0 INTRODUCTION
Native Foresters was commissioned by Callaghan and Toth Engineers in May 2017 to
conduct a flora and fauna survey and habitat assessment of the vegetation within Lot 2
RP177554, known as Carramar Noosa Care (the Carramar extension). A revision of the
report was requested following a Noosa Council review and request for further information
in February 2018.

This report assesses the fauna and flora which are present and the ecological condition
of the subject site. It documents the results of preliminary and targeted surveys for EVNT-
listed species including Wallum Froglet (Crinia tinnula), Swamp Crayfish
(Tenuibranchiurus glypticus) and Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus). An assessment of the
impact of the proposed development on the habitat and breeding habitat of the
Endangered Swamp Crayfish whose presence is confirmed onsite is provided.
Recommendations relating to mitigating the potential impacts on native fauna species
and their breeding habitats are made where considered relevant to proposed construction
works.

1.1 Objectives of the report

The objectives of the report are as follows:

▪ To assess and describe the existing vegetation on the site, in accordance with the
Flora Survey Guidelines – Protected Plants (NC Act 1992).
▪ To determine the presence of any State and/or Commonwealth listed fauna and flora
      species.
▪ To provide an ecological assessment of habitat values on site, including breeding
habitat value for native species, with a particular focus on EVNT listed fauna species.
The assessment complies with DEHP/DES reporting requirements for Animal
Breeding Places Assessment and Noosa Council’s Planning Scheme Policy 18 –
      Ecological Assessment Guidelines.
▪ To comment on the potential impacts of any proposed works on native flora and fauna,
and their breeding habitat, with a specific focus on the impacts of proposed works on
      Endangered Swamp Crayfish habitat.

1.2 Site description

The subject site encompasses the footprint of a proposed extension to the Carramar site
situated at 186 Cooroy Noosa Road, Tewantin on Lot 2 RP177554. The survey area
encompasses an area in the east of the lot that contains a mowed parkland with scattered
shade trees and landscaped garden beds, pagodas, stormwater outlets and footpath as
well as a natural area of Melaleuca woodland and wetland vegetation. This represents a
total area of approximately 8,000m2. Refer to Figure 1 for a Locality map and Figure 2 for
a Survey area map.

Elevation slopes gently to the south and east, falling from approximately 15 metres to 7
metres above sea level (asl.) Ephemeral ponding occurs throughout the central, southern
and eastern section of the survey area following seasonal rainfall.
