of exposure to 10kW/m² RHF. Leonard et al reports that ‘Human skin is damaged by exposure
levels greater than 2 kW/m²’ (Leonard, J, Opie, K et al. (2014).
It is therefore apparent that whilst the marquee location satisfies Assessment Benchmark 4 of
the SPP Bushfire 2019 it should not be relied upon as a ‘shelter in place’ option given its
material palette and degree of RHF exposure. The ‘Refuge’ Flamesol presented in Appendix
3 identifies that a minimum 150m separation to SU9b is required for an unshielded shelter in
place location to achieve <2kW/m² radiant heat flux exposure.
