Visual Assessment Report
0B1B2BNoosa Boat Shed
Figure 4-4 Visualisation of proposed boatshed and landscaping from VP1, Russell Street (at maturity) (Photomontage by NRA co-
lab)
The photomontage (Figure 4-4) shows that the darker colours of the modified roof and timber finishes reduces
the prominence of the boatshed from this viewpoint, and the proposed landscaping helps to soften the
boatshed and the patrol building. Overall, the darker tones appear more natural and significantly help reduce
glare and the apparent bulk of the boatshed improving the view from this location.
4.1.3 Views from Noosa River (VP2 & 3)
From the Noosa River, the boatshed and patrol building is clearly visible from the upstream and downstream
views (both pre-2017 and 2018 versions); including from recreational boats, and commercial tour operators
such as the ferry and water taxi. Although low in height, the pre-2017 boatshed (and administration building)
stand out for their discordant design elements (orange brick with metal sheeting, pitch roof with flat roof). This
combination created an ad hoc and dated mix of built form, as modelled from these viewpoints (Figure 4-5).
The 2018 boatshed is more contemporary and cohesive in design, however, it appears more prominent given
the increase in height and bulk, and its pale sheeting which increases reflectivity and draws attention to it from
the River.
