This form has been designed for the convenience of the public, and any persons wishing to lodge a submission are not obliged to use this form. 3. Details of Submission I (We), make the following submission: Opposition to this development, based on the following points. 1. Environmental -The installation of a service station in such close proximity to facilities like the open air swimming pool, sport centre and an open-air swimming pool and classrooms (and the electricity substation) creates risks to the health and safety of school children, families and staff. They will be continual and I have two children at Good Shephered Lutheran College, who have a cumulative 7 years of schooling left. No one can deny environmental impact studies which link long term exposure, particularly to Benzenes, to a variety of health concerns. Although the developer’s propaganda supplied to allay such concerns is noted, it is one-way information and there is always the risk that measures taken to control chemicals will not work. 2. Traffic congestion. I am not a parent who drives my kids to school. They travel on school on the school bus. Even so, I do go for after school pick ups from sport and other activites or morning presentations. What a nightmare it already is to gain entry at the main entrance or find a park. With the developer stating that there will be up to 129 visits to the station each peak time, that only spells congestion disaster not just for the school community, but the general community at the two round-a-bouts of the school. 3. Health and Safety of Children – It will be difficult for the school to “police” students wanting to buy softdrinks, chips, lollies and other items from the service station shop. This means there is a risk of children visiting this unsafe environment. Being hit by a car, reversed over by a large 4-wheel drive are real (albeit low) risks to consider as well. Although it sounds dramatic, there is also the risk of unsupervised children being abducted from an environment like a busy petrol station or being caught in potential robbery situations. I implore Council to consider both mine and other objections to this development. I wish for my children to continue their valued educational experience in a wonderful and healthy school environment, not tainted (in many ways) by this development. It just does not feel right at all.
