32. The site is currently a vacant block and adjoins GSLC, an educational facility of
approximately 900 students from prep to year 12.
33. In particular, the site directly adjoins the GSLC 14 metre outdoor toddler pool. The
GSLC 25 metre outdoor pool is next to the toddler pool. There is no fence or other
solid structure between the boundary of the site and the toddler pool. The pool
facility, apart from constant school use, is utilised all year round by Diamond Swim
(GSLC’s Swim School). The pool facility is open for training and /or use from 5.30am to
7.30pm and teaches babies from 8 weeks of age. The pool facility is also available for
the public to hire.
34. The site also adjoins the GSLC music rooms and HPE Centre, which is used
continuously by the school. The HPE Centre is also available for external hire,
including basketball, netball, indoor soccer, volleyball, badminton and major
functions. In addition, the EFM Health Club, Noosaville operates out of the upper
floor of the HPE Centre, which is open for use between the hours of 6am to 7.30pm.
35. The HPE Centre has a series of high level air intake louvers facing the site. (See
photograph below). If the service station proceeds and the “vapour wall” is
constructed, there is nothing to prevent the emissions going over the barrier and
through the HPE Centre louvers and into the HPE Centre. Even though the vapours
are heavier than air, if the wind is from the west or south west, it will blow the
emissions towards the pool and HPE Centre.
