                                                                                          ACOUSTICS & AIR QUALITY

The predicted L10(18hour) noise levels with the inclusion of the proposed acoustic barrier
(shown in Figure 6.1) for the allotments are presented in Table D.1 in Appendix D, and for the
rooms in the aged care facility in Table D.2 in Appendix D. (Refer to Figure 3.2 for numbering of
rooms).
From Table D.1 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level is 64 dBA L 10(18hour) on
lots 114, 136 and 137. From Table D.2 it can be seen that the highest predicted noise level in
the aged care facility is 62 dBA L10(18hour) in rooms 13 and 14 in D Wing . All other allotments
and rooms have lower levels of noise exposure. Based on these predicted noise levels, the
MP4.4 Noise Categories in Table D.1 and Table D.2 extend up to Noise Category 2 for road
traffic noise.
From the tables in Appendix D it can be seen that for a small number of lots, the predicted
L10(18hour) noise levels exceed the noise limits of 60 dBA (1m from the facade). It is noted that
in the earlier noise report for this subject site (ASK Report 4991R01V01 dated 12/03/2009),
the barrier height was restricted to 2.1 m resulting in higher noise exposures at dwellings. This is
accommodated with an increase in acoustic construction upgrades to the dwellings. It is
proposed to use the same barrier height limit of 2.1m and to meet the internal noise levels via
the MP4.4 Construction Categories nominated in Table D.1 and Table D.2 in Appendix D.
A review of building construction requirements associated with the predicted MP4.4 noise
categories is included in Section 8.

6.5 Acoustic Barrier Location and Construction

The proposed barrier is to be constructed to 2.1m above finished ground level at the site
boundary. Should a barrier of alternative height be constructed, then the MP4.4 Noise
Categories in Appendix D should be revised accordingly.
The acoustic barrier will mitigate noise from a TMR road and therefore it must comply with Main
Roads Technical Standard MRTS15 ‘Noise Fences’ dated April 2014. The acoustic barrier
should be solid and continuous with negligible holes and gaps between palings or panels or near
the ground. The minimum surface density must be 15 kg/m2. The acoustic barrier may comprise
a combination of an earth mound or crib lock wall and a timber fence on top.
