Ecological Assessment Report v1 NCES Ref: J000669

4.3.1 Vegetation Community 1 – Regrowth Notophyll Vine Forest
Vegetation Community 1 (VC1) is present within the north-west and eastern extent of the site. The
vegetation generally consists of early phase regrowth and has attained an average height of <20m.
The canopy is dominated by Acacia melanoxylon (black wattle), Commersonia bartramia (brown
kurrajong), Flindersia schottiana (bumpy ash) and Alphitonia excelsa (red ash). Crown cover
percentage is approximately 60% with the majority of canopy trees attaining an average diameter at
breast height (DBH) of approximately 150-200mm.
The mid-storey is mid-dense and contains sub-adult canopy species and additional species such as
Litsea leefeana (brown bolly gum), Guioa semiglauca (native quince), Acacia disparrima (hickory
wattle), Ficus fraseri (sandpaper fig) and the invasive species Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor
laurel). The understorey is highly degraded and dominated by the invasive species Lantana camara
(lantana).
VC1 is akin to a regrowth community containing ‘least concern’ Regional Ecosystem (RE) 12.11.10
which is described as Notophyll vine forest +/- Araucaria cunninghamii on metamorphics +/-
interbedded volcanics. Plate 10 depicts typical vegetation within VC1.

4.3.2 Vegetation Community 2 – Open pasture with low density trees
Vegetation Community 2 (VC2) dominates the central extent of the site flanking the proposed new
building envelope. This vegetation community is characterised by periodically slashed pasture grass
with low density woody vegetation. Plate 11 depicts typical vegetation within VC2.
