Architectural Statement:
Sited on the corner of Woodland Drive and Rufous Street, and within the existing masterplaned precinct for Rufous Street, 7 Woodland Way provides a unique commercial offering reflecting our Client’s commitment to sustainable design & quality construction. The
proposal will provide space for ground floor retail tenancies overlooking the existing green space to the south east, connectivity to the existing footpaths & public carparks along with commercial space on the upper floors that provide meaningful office space with
views and street activation.
The design attempts to capitalise on and celebrate its position within the existing public / private realms and interface between the existing commercial and residential precincts. The beach, the beach shack, the ‘hand made,’ shady, casual, airy, filtered sunlight,
provision of lush, subtropical landscape are all themes threaded into the design. The architectural language attempts to blend into the Peregian context and local vernacular and promotes a casual and familiar subtropical feel.
Our proposal provides a strong interface with the street and corner with a heroic curved, domestic scale vertical batten shade and privacy screen which provides a fine grain ‘hand made’ character along with an ephemeral & engaging façade that changes
throughout the seasons and time of day. Materiality and look and feel is considered ‘familiar,’ consistent with the existing built environment in this precinct and with reference to the quintessential ‘timber and tin’ sunshine coast beach shack scattering the coastline.
