3. Details of Submission
I (~). make the following submission: I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion.
I am neither a business owner nor a landlord in Noosa however I oppose the proposed expansion of the Noosa Civic
Centre on the grounds that Noosa already has too much retail space as is evidenced by the commercial vacancies and
business closures (eg berardos) in all Noosa shopping areas including (but not limited to) Noosa Junction, Tewantin.
, Noosa Village and Hastings 51.
Each new vacancy steals a little vibrancy from its surrounding area, further diminishing the appeal of the remaining
businesses to the consumer.
Tourism is Noosa's main industry. Tourists come here to enjoy the beach and restaurants, amble along boutique
I shopping, see family and friends, and outdoor lifestyle; they don't come for the mall. they come for the 'not mall'. I
Many of Noosa's residences are second homes and unoccupied much of the year so need little retail. And like the tourists
I when they come, the occupants aren't coming for the mall, they are coming for the 'not mall'. I
'I Noosa is no exception to the rapid decline of traditional retail shopping that is occurring thoughout Australia due to online
shopping.
The Noosa Civic Extension proposal will only exacerbate the problem of oV~;SUPPIYof retail space that already exists.
I For these reasons I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion propos Q,
