3. Site Description
The site is formally described as Lot 2 on SP281580, covering an area of about 622 m2, and having
frontage to Ravenwood Drive along the western boundary. An open water canal is present to the rear
(east), which ultimately connects to the Noosa River. Similar residential properties surrounded the site,
most of which had jetties jutting out into the canal. At the time of the investigation the site was vacant
with a coverage of grass.
To the east, a concrete revetment wall about 1 m high fronts the canal. The western and central parts of
the site were relatively level, with a batter dipping easterly down to the revetment wall at about 10°. At
the time of the assessment, an intertidal beach extended in front of the wall, covering most of the
structure. However, the northern edge of the wall remained exposed, and the beach tapered off towards
a stormwater outlet near the site boundary. Locally, a channel approximately 0.5 meters deep was
observed directly beneath the outlet. Further east, the beach sloped downwards into the canal at an
angle of 6° to 10°, beyond which further observations were not possible.
Although the revetment wall was generally covered by the intertidal beach area, visible parts appeared to
be in straight alignment with no obvious signs of distress which would be attributed to global slope
instability.
It is understood that a previous double storey residence over a single level basement was constructed
sometime after 2018, and was demolished in 2024 due to significant structural distress. Conversations
with the client suggest that this was due to inadequate structural design and dewatering of the lower
level, however, no further details were provided.
A recent aerial image of the site and surrounds is shown in Text Figure 2 below.
