Geotechnical Report
3 ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
This stability assessment is based upon:
A detailed inspection of the topographic, surface drainage and geological conditions of the site and
its immediate environs which was completed by our geotechnical engineer on 6 November 2023.
These features were compared to those of other similar lots in neighbouring locations to provide a
comparative basis for assessing the risk of instability affecting the proposed development. The
attached Appendix A defines the terminology adopted for the risk assessment together with a
flowchart illustrating the Risk Management Process based on the guidelines given in AGS 2007c
(Reference 1).
A review of the subsurface conditions presented in the Geo Consulting report.
A limited scope additional geotechnical investigation comprising two additional Dynamic Cone
Penetration (DCP) tests (DCP101 and DCP102) completed in the rear yard during our site inspection
and extended to 3.9m depth.
The attached Figure 2 presents a geotechnical site plan showing the principal geotechnical features present
at the site and is based on aerial imagery sourced from ‘Nearmap’ with the location of the proposed
alterations and additions superimposed. Additional features on Figure 2 have been measured by hand held
clinometer and tape measure techniques and hence are only approximate. Should any of the features be
critical to the proposed development, we recommend they be located more accurately using instrument
survey techniques. Figure 3 presents an explanation of the geotechnical mapping symbols used on Figure 2.
The test locations from the GeoCon2012 investigation and the current additional investigation completed by
JK Geotechnics (JKG) are indicated on the attached Figure 2. The JKG test locations were set out by taped
measurements from existing surface features.
The relative compaction of the fill and the relative density of the natural sands were assessed from the DCP
blow counts. Further details of the methods and procedures employed in the additional investigation are
presented in the attached Report Explanation Notes.
No geotechnical laboratory testing was carried out as it was not deemed necessary. Testing for possible
contamination of the site soils and groundwater was outside the agreed scope of the investigation.
4 DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS
4.1 Geology
The Queensland Department of Resources online 1:100,000 geological map indicates the site is underlain by
Holocene aged blowout dunes, comprising “Quartz sand; Holocene blowout dunes”, shown in green in
Plate 1.
