Subject: tt bcs 1192 MCU12/0184 Notice of Submission Peter Becker From: Faith Wild Date: 2013-09-24T04:57:15+00:00 To: Internet Mailbox Sunshine Coast Regional Council OBJECTION TO THE COOROY BROILER FARM I would like to draw council's attention to the following paragraph from the Cessnock Development Control Plan regarding poultry farms. Part D – Specific Development Chapter 6 – Poultry Farms – Neighbouring Land Uses CESSNOCK DEVELOPMENT CONTROL PLAN D.6-1 D.6: POULTRY FARMS – NEIGHBOURING LAND USES………….. From a planning perspective, a major threat to agriculture in the Hunter comes from residential and rural - residential development. The poultry industry is extremely sensitive to residential and rural - residential encroachment. Indeed, NSW Agriculture estimates that approximately 90 per cent of poultry farms in the region are under some form of pressure from this type of activity. Complaints made against poultry farms centre particularly on odour, noise, night lights and the visitation of heavy vehicles. In Cessnock, complaints regarding poultry farming have resulted in acute conflict between farmers and residents. Such conflict can cause the affected residents much discomfort and distress while farmers may be put to greater capital expenditure and personal stress. In addition, the resources of Council are often employed for long periods in an attempt to resolve these conflicts. In some areas of the State, the level of complaints raised against poultry farms have contributed to the closure of such enterprise. I have grave concerns with many aspects of this proposal, namely the noise from the truck movements night and day; the diesel fumes from these trucks; the damage to the roads these trucks will cause; the compromising of safety of drivers, cyclists and walkers as a result of these truck movements; the dust and odour associated with this farm; the potential damage to the environment and the health risks associated with living near broiler farms. I have a serious respiratory condition and should this application be approved, I will surely suffer the consequences. Please save us all a lot of anxiety and stress by not allowing this application to be approved. Peter Becker 359 Cooroy Belli Creek Rd., Cooroy, 4563.
