SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA 24 MAY 2017
Figure 5 Johns Landing Nature Refuge zoning proposal
In order to secure the conservation area, it is recommended that a Nature Refuge be gazetted over
the entire land parcel. The Nature Refuge Deed of Agreement can then have a split zoning of 70%
conservation area and 30% mixed use zone for other purposes for example a camping ground,
picnic area or other facility.
The proposed Nature Refuge conservation area shown above covers part of the currently approved
campground development area footprint along the foreshore (NW corner).
This is consistent with the Environment Levy Working Group’s recommendation that the Nature
Refuge conservation area extend to the river foreshore in the north west corner in order to protect
significant riparian vegetation and allow rehabilitation works to adequately protect that part of the
foreshore.
Furthermore, the Environmental Levy Working Group recommend that immediately after
settlement the conservation area be defined by marker posts to clearly delineate the boundaries
of the Nature Refuge conservation area and the current development approval be amended to
confine the campground footprint to the mixed use zone.
