        The Spit width measurements indicate that recession is most evident towards the western end.
        Localised narrowing observed at Point 1 is largely attributed to end scour from the training wall and
        rock wall on the southern side of The Spit. Recession appears to occur sporadically and is most likely
        associated with the occurrence of strong river currents during spring tide periods.

        Of more concern is the recession observed at Point 2. Figure 2-5 shows the spit width at each
        measuring location since Stage 1 of the shoreline strategy was implemented, along with the
        associated trend line (dotted) for each location. The measurements confirm that while the southern
        channel was not dominant (i.e. prior to 2017), the shoreline was relatively stable. However, since the
        southern channel became dominant, recession at this location has recommenced. If the southern
        channel remains the dominant channel over the next ten years, recession at Point 2 in the order of
        20 m could be expected.
