Noosa Spit SEMP Final Report 20
Noosa Spit Shoreline Erosion

Figure 2-6 Dog Beach Recreational Beach Width

The 2004 imagery (refer Table 2-1) shows a wide recreational beach towards the eastern end of the
embayment associated with the progressive attachment of a sand shoal to the beach. Figure 2-1
(2003) suggests that this process was influenced by the placement of sand within the channel to
deflect flows away from Dog Beach and The Spit. At the time of the photo capture, the upstream
attachment point of the shoal was in the vicinity of Point 2, hence a wide recreational beach was
        observed at that location.

Further east, the recreational beach was narrower but fronted by a lagoon, while to the west, the
channel persisted close to shore and no notable increase in recreational beach width was observed.
By 2006, the shoal had completely dispersed, and the channel had returned to its previous position
        hard up against Dog Beach.

The impact of the 2013 nourishment campaign and training wall construction on recreational beach
width is obvious. Following the immediate shoreline adjustment after the nourishment works had
been completed, the Noosa Spit (western) training wall has continued to hold the western end of the
beach largely in place, however the presence of the scour hole at the northern tip of the training wall
appears to be progressively influencing the shape of the beach immediately downstream. At present
this impact is localised and only affects the beach within approximately 40 m of the training wall.

Since 2017 the remainder of Dog Beach has largely returned to its condition before Stage 1 of the
        shoreline strategy.

2.4.1.3 Boat Wake
The entrance to the Noosa River is not maintained for navigational purposes. As such, the ‘preferred’
channels used by recreational and commercial vessels varies in response to the entrance and shoal
