Noosa Spit SEMP Final Report 65
Shoreline Erosion Mitigation Options
4.2.1 Rapid Assessment of Options
There are a variety of measures and tools available to manage persistent coastal erosion issues. A
rapid assessment of potential options for Noosa Spit was undertaken with the intention of identifying
the short-listed or ‘promoted management options’ for further consideration. This qualitative
assessment was based on the criteria summarised in Table 4-2 with the options and rapid
assessment results summarised in Table 4-3.
A ‘traffic light’ colour system was used to assess the option against each criterion, as either:
• GO;
• SLOW, and proceed with caution; or
• STOP.
The criteria used were not weighted, meaning that each has an equal influence on the overall score
for each option assessed. Options with a positive overall were shortlisted and then subjected to a
more detailed analysis which is presented in Section 4.3.
