Hi Mark,

Please send me what Council sent the Developers Traffic Consultant, so I better understand the context of their response questions.

Thanks

My initial thoughts:

Item 2 - Existing Traffic Data – Direct enquiry to Alex Neville, as I am not sure who in Council is now responsible for collecting and managing the traffic data as there have been a number of staff changes. Asset Management Team should have traffic count data and be able to help but I am not sure how current the data is. If you feel the data is too old (which it may be) you may need to advise the traffic consultant to collect their own updated data.

Item 3 – Count Data – Preferable to collect data over a 2-week period (14+ days) to ensure consistency of data collected and minimise risk of any data being skewed, or being influenced by weather, or there being equipment errors.

Item 4 – Loop Data – Not sure where they would be collecting inductive loop data from? But no these are unlikely to be suitable as they typically do not detect the direction of travel, the speed of the vehicle, or the class of vehicle detected. Dual tube counters typically the most economical using a data logger.

Item 5 – Holiday impacts – I think you will need to give me more to go on with this one, as the question is open ended and holiday impacts vary depending on which part of the Shire we are talking about. I’m not sure that Karbi Road experiences too many impacts at holiday times compared to non-holiday periods, and traffic is possibly fairly stable. However, if we are talking about the coastal areas of the Shire, such as Tewantin, Noosaville, Noosa Heads and the eastern beaches, well that’s a different story as these areas do experience greater traffic impacts at holiday periods. There are also holiday traffic variations within the coastal area and within suburbs, so depends exactly where we are talking about. But Karbi Road is removed from all of this so perhaps give me a call to discuss as I’m a bit confused as to what the Consultant needs.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your time on the phone this morning.

If you would be kind enough to ask the following of your traffic engineering team, it would be much appreciated:

1.	Is the existing Council refuse vehicle which utilises Cootharaba Road / Kabi Road a 12.5m rigid vehicle? If so, have they reported any issues with accessing the intersection?
2.	Does Council have any existing traffic volume data for either Cootharaba Road or Kabi Road?
3.	It is typical to utilise 7-day traffic data, would 7-day count data be acceptable in this instance?
4.	Would it be sufficient to utilise 7-day loop data, with a sample peak hour turning movement data?
5.	Does Council have a preferred percentage increase to traffic flow to adopt for the holiday period?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
