SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 JUNE 2019
Risks & Opportunities
Risks
Conversion of waste bin services to garden waste services will have an impact through the
loss of revenue to cover the corporate costs in service charges.
Some premises may not have physical space for additional garden waste bins and will
need to be exempted.
Contamination of garden waste bins may increase if not properly managed by on site
management vs domestic owners who are better able to control the contents of bins.
Opportunities
This proposal provides:
An opportunity to divert more commercial garden waste and save landfill airspace.
Reduce exposure to commercial customers of imposing waste levy charges for garden
waste that is buried, that can easily be diverted.
In many instances the potential for commercial customers to segregate waste more
efficiently and benefit financially through converting a general waste service to a garden
waste service.
Consultation
